Let It Shine

The Let It Shine class taught us various ways to add sparkle and shine to our projects. For my card, I incorporated hot foiling, Wink of Stella shimmer, and my custom-made glitter paper to create a balanced yet dazzling design.

Products Used:

Steps to Create:
  1. Hot Foiling the Floral Design:
I started by hot foiling the large rose image from the Golden Days hot foil plate onto white cardstock using gold foil and my glimmer machine.
  2. Ink Blending with Coordinating Stencils:
To color the flower, I used the coordinating stencils with Heather, Violet, and Iris inks. Since I only had three shades, I created a fourth shade by applying the lightest ink with a very light hand for the base layer and blending it more heavily for the second layer.
  3. Die Cutting the Shaped Panel:
Using the largest die from the Essential Four Petal Labels set, I die-cut the foiled and ink-blended rose to create a shaped panel.
  4. Creating a Raised Centerpiece:
To add dimension, I die-cut the center of the shaped panel using the second-largest die from the same set. This created a border and a smaller inner panel. I planned to foam mount the inner panel for a raised effect.
  5. Utilizing Leftover Stenciled Images:
From the leftover ink-blended cardstock, I managed to cut a smaller panel featuring part of the rose. I used this piece to decorate the inside of the card.
  6. Preparing the Card Base:
I created a card base from kraft cardstock.
  7. Assembling the Card:
I glued the border panel directly onto the card base. Then, carefully aligning the inner panel with the flower border for a seamless look, I foam mounted it onto the card base.
  8. Adding Subtle Shimmer:
Using Wink of Stella, I painted over the darkest areas of the flower petals, adding a delicate shimmer that’s visible when the card catches the light.
  9. Creating Custom Glitter Paper:
For the sentiment, I made my own glitter cardstock. I adhered double-sided tape onto white cardstock, sprinkled Ranger Distress Glitter in Vintage Platinum, and pressed it down. This glitter isn’t overly shiny but adds a subtle sparkle that complements the design.
  10. Die Cutting the Sentiment:
I die-cut the shadow piece of the "hi" sentiment from the glitter paper and the detailed piece from plain white cardstock. After gluing the two layers together, I achieved a clean and elegant look.
  11. Adding a Secondary Sentiment:
To enhance the "hi" sentiment, I stamped the word "friend" onto white cardstock using archival jet black ink. I trimmed it into a fishtail strip and positioned it as if it were peeking out from behind the "hi."
  12. Final Touches:
I adhered the sentiment to the card, completing the design.

This card strikes a perfect balance between elegance and shine. The subtle shimmer, combined with the bold gold foiling and glitter accents, creates a design that’s not too overwhelming yet undeniably eye-catching. I love the result!
