For The Guys

My fifth class, For The Guys, has been a bit of a challenge—it really made me step out of my comfort zone to think about what styles and colors would appeal to men. Inspired by the Pop Art class, where we learned about Andy Warhol's designs, I created my own version with a twist. I softened the colors and used geometric stencils instead of images, resulting in a unique, Arabesque-style take on Warhol’s Pop Art.

Product used:

  • White Cardstock
  • Black Cardstock
  • Craft Your Life Project Kit: Seasonal Blooms
  • Quilt Block Builder Stencil Set (4 in 1)
  • Forest Trail Fresh Dye Ink
  • Rose Petal Fresh Dye Ink
  • Sun-Kissed Delights Fresh Dye Ink
  • Sugarplums Fresh Dye Ink

Steps:

  1. I started by stenciling the geometric pattern on a piece of white paper using the Quilt Block Builder Stencil Set (4 in 1). To recreate the Andy Warhol design with a twist, I ink-blended the first stencil with Sugarplums ink, the second stencil with Forest Trail ink, the third stencil with Sun-Kissed Delights ink, and the fourth stencil with Rose Petal ink.
  2. I trimmed around each stenciled image using my paper trimmer, making sure to leave no border and that all 4 images were of the same size.
  3. I reinforced each of the 4 images by gluing another layer of paper behind them.
  4. I trimmed my panel to 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches.
  5. Using a pencil and ruler, I drew horizontal and vertical lines on the panel to find the center, ensuring equal spacing around the 4 images when I glued them. Not to forget to erase the lines after all images are glued.
  6. I die-cut the Thanks sentiment several times from the Seasonal Blooms die set to create a dimensioned sentiment, using white cardstock. The shadow layer was also die-cut from black cardstock and glued behind the sentiment.
  7. The sentiment was glued in the middle of the 4 images.
  8. Finally, the panel was mounted onto a card base.

I had such a great time experimenting with this design! It was fun to step out of my comfort zone and think about creating a masculine card with a unique twist on Pop Art as well as create a new card size. The geometric stenciling, soft color palette, and dimensional sentiment all came together perfectly to create a card that's both modern and striking. I hope you enjoyed following along with my creative process as much as I enjoyed bringing it to life. Thanks for stopping by, and I can’t wait to share more crafting adventures with you soon!
